“Dear Lions” @ Mercury Lounge - November 29th, 2011

The band Dear Lions conquered the Mercury Lounge once again last Tuesday as they played in honor of the release for their second EP. Playing to a substantial and enthusiastic crowd, the band played selections from their first EP, followed by songs off the second one, and towards the end they played a brand new song that they’d just written that day.

Afterward they were selling their 1st EP on vinyl which came with their 2nd EP (in a disc version). Of course, I bought a copy. It looks awesome, although I don’t have a record player but that’s not really the important thing, right?

I’m not sure when they’ll be playing again, but you can follow them on twitter (@dearlions) or Facebook and stay up-to-date.

Last Tuesday Dear Lions, a favorite band of mine, played an 11pm show at Pete’s Candy Shop as part of the 2011 CMJ.  Only for this band would I do that (well, and Green Day, Weezer, and Ted Leo, too). The room at Pete’s is incredibly tiny so it was intimate and a really great time. They played a set including Space Sister, Bowing For Effect, and Nostalgia Dream, among others.

I arrived home around 1am that night but it was entirely worth it. They’ve finally completed their second EP. It sounds fantastic and will hopefully be available on iTunes. Until then keep up with them on their BandSpace page.

Dear Lions - Nostalgia Dream

A song from Dear Lions’ new EP.  This is a preview that the band’s lead singer, Ricky, put online tonight.  This song is amazing and has an especially impressive play out. Give it a listen, you won’t regret it.

“Dear Lions” @ Mercury Lounge

Last Thursday night I went down to the Mercury Lounge on Houston Street to see the band “Dear Lions” play.  I know one of the members from my frequent trips to The Guitar Center so I wanted to support him in his endeavors because he’d always been so helpful when I was looking for things TGC.

The lead singer of “Dear Lions,” whose first name is Ricky, is quite awesome.  He has a great voice and lots of energy.  He’s also a fantastic song writer.  There were some awesome guitar riffs and drum solos in their songs.  One song in particular towards the end of their set had a killer drum beat at the beginning.

I bought one of their EP’s from the main vocalist after and when I asked if he’d sign it, he was really excited (he said it was first time he’d ever done that). It took forever to get home afterward, but it was a good time.  $10 to see a great band play in a tiny space and support a friend?  Totally priceless.
