My Top Ten Moments of Theatre in 2011
It’s always hard to pick just five moments of New York theatre a to wrap up a year. But it’s especially difficult when you’ve seen and processed the most recent season so I thought I’d do a Top 10 list.
1. First on this list is obviously Sleep No More, presented by Punchdrunk. I’m glad I got in on this before people caught on to what was going on down in Chelsea....

The part in which I eat my metaphorical hat.
Remember when I wrote about the sad plight of Bonnie and Clyde closing on December 30th and I was going to try to see it this week? Well, my friend and I scored rush tickets (awesome seats: orchestra, J 5 & 7) for last night’s performance. He’d seen it once before and loves Wildhorn, so he found ways to enjoy it. One of my friend’s had told me “it’s not that...

The final evening at the Brooklyn Night Bazaar
I’d heard about the Brooklyn Night Bazaar via Twitter this week and it seemed like a good time so I went down last night after seeing An Evening With Patti Lupone and Mandy Patinkin with my mom during the day. Inside the downtown NQR platform at Union Square, a band was promoting themselves and their upcoming show at The Knitting Factor. They’re called Moon Hooch (check them out here)...

"Give me some mothafuckin' OJ!"
I felt something magical as I entered the Cherry Lane Theatre last Saturday to see Asuncion, a new play written by and starring Jesse Eisenberg. It’d only taken me 25 years and hundreds of theatre-going experiences, but here I was, finally, at the Cherry Lane, a theatre with some much history behind it.
But this isn’t about the Cherry Lane, it’s about Eisenberg’s...

Bang! Broadway's Bonnie & Clyde Will Close Dec. 30 →
And the first show of the 2011-2012 theatre season bites the dust (at least I’m pretty sure, someone correct me if I’m wrong). This is Frank Wildhorn’s second flop in a single year, and his fifth consecutive flop on Broadway.
Bonnie and Clyde spent years in development, or at least it seemed like we were hearing about it for years. I’d heard pretty good things about it out...
How do I define history? It’s just one fucking thing after another.

"Extraordinary how potent cheap music is!"
I will admit that I was a bit nervous as to how Kim Cattrall would fair onstage in Private Lives, but not nervous enough to keep me from buying a ticket. Noel Coward’s Private Lives is a classic comedy about an ex-husband and wife, Elliot (Paul Gross) and Amanda (Kim Cattrall), who wind up staying in adjacent hotel suites on their honeymoons with their new beaus and end up running away...

"Dear Lions" @ Mercury Lounge - November 29th,...
The band Dear Lions conquered the Mercury Lounge once again last Tuesday as they played in honor of the release for their second EP. Playing to a substantial and enthusiastic crowd, the band played selections from their first EP, followed by songs off the second one, and towards the end they played a brand new song that they’d just written that day.
Afterward they were selling their 1st...
